One of the hardest decisions I had to make about my study abroad was when to arrive in the land of Oz – so I thought I’d take the chance to write a blog about when to arrive in Australia before beginning your studies!
While the beginning of the school year usually starts around late February, it’s important to allow yourself enough time to go get settled into your new home so that you aren’t dealing with culture shock and school at the same time. At the very least, make sure to arrive a few days in advance of orientation so that you can get settled in.
When I was coming to Australia, I took things a step further by arriving in time to see the New Year’s Eve celebrations in Sydney! I’ve always heard that the fireworks over the harbour are incredible, so I decided to make the trek down to Australia from Canada early and take in the events. It made for a long time in Australia before starting university, but it gave me a great chance to meet people, enjoy cultural experiences, and really be ready to roll by the time school started.
It’s really up to you, but in my opinion, the earlier the better!
Enjoy this video below of what I saw while in Sydney! There were 1.5 million people around the harbour!!
