When preparing to take the leap of faith that is moving to a new country and setting out on your own for the first time, it is important to make sure that you are well prepared so that there aren’t any negative surprises awaiting you once you arrive. Australia is a beautiful country, and in order to get the most out of your experience, it is key that you take care of the details before leaving home.
One of my biggest difficulties was finding a place to stay. It can be quite difficult not knowing which accommodation providers you can trust, and trying to tell the quality of a place from a few pictures on the internet is very difficult! Luckily you all have the benefit of using Student Solutions to look after your accommodation needs, which is a huge advantage that I never had!
Once you have sorted things out with your educational institution, received your student visa, and started the process of looking for accommodation, its definitely time to start looking at air fares. A generally good tip to go by is that air fares are usually cheapest around 6 weeks before the date of travel, so keep that in mind when deciding when to book!
Arranging pick up from the airport and transportation to your new accommodation is really important as well, since navigating public transit systems that you aren’t familiar with, after such a long flight and having so much luggage, can be difficult and even dangerous. Make sure to budget for a taxi to take you to your accommodation for the first time, or arrange an airport pick up from your tertiary institution or a friend to make sure that you get to your new home safe and sound!
Preparing to leave your home country can be intimidating, especially if you have never been to Australia before. Making sure that you’re taking steps towards being fully prepared and making your first day in Australia easy is so important to having a great stay. Happy planning!
