Show me the Money | An International Student Accommodation Blog

Every international student knows that they have to be careful with their finances in order to be able to live comfortably and enjoy their time in Australia. For that reason, down the road I’ll be writing a blog on how to use the Australian banking system! For now though, I’m going to write about some good ways to save money while studying in Australia!

Tip #1: Take advantage of concession prices

Many places in Australia offer discounted concession prices, which you may know as student prices where you’re from (the term concession tripped me up at first). Looking for these discounts can save you significant amounts of money of the long term, and will also naturally lead you to places that value students.

Often times grocery stores will mark down items that are going to expire within a few days, so take advantage of those discounts and pick up things that you intend to eat soon and save some money!

Tip #3: Spend time with other students

Being around other students who are also trying to save money every chance is great, because they may know about different deals than you! Sometimes universities or organizations like StudyAdelaide will also offer cheap trips to see more of Australia at a low rate, so following international student networks and organizations can lead to huge savings and great experiences!

Tip #4: Spend your money on experiences rather than things

It’s been proven that people are happier when they spend their money on experiences rather than things, so take advantage of being in a beautiful country like Australia and invest in great experiences that will leave you with memories for a lifetime, rather than unnecessary material items that will end up in the trash soon anyway.
